|
The Advanced Oceanographic Technician is responsible for the deployment, data acquisition, recovery, maintenance, and initial data processing of oceanographic data sets from a wide variety of instruments, and the preparation of preliminary reports and other products as required.
Essential Functions:
•Participate in the shipboard field deployment and recovery of sensors
•Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation
•Accurately acquire, store, process, compile, and transmit oceanographic data from CTD, dissolved oxygen, fluorometer, altimeter, ADCP, LISST, and other ocean sensors in accordance with existing standards
•Place data on corporate servers for additional processing, distribution, and archive by data managers
•Maintain updated vendors software for all sensors
•Prepare or edit survey reports as required.
•Create procedures or work instructions, where absent.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Oceanographic Technology or a similar Earth Sciences degree and 3-10 years experience in a related field. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of oceanographic technology and data acquisition. In addition, the position also has the following requirements:
•Participate in cruises or travel up to 50 % of the work year
•Must be computer proficient
•Must have strong problem solving skills
•Must have knowledge of CTD data acquisition and processing
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Demonstrated proficiency in performing assigned tasks with moderate supervision
•Demonstrated proficiency in communicating with peers, supervision, managers and clients
•Must be a team player and have an excellent ability to work in a collaborative environment
•Must have a driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record and ability to obtain a passport
•Candidate must complete a pre-employment drug screen
